Tony Chrenka's practice pursues questions of work and impressions of perception through photography, drawing, sculpture and installation. The artist draws out the depth of a material substance or the shape of observed space in various media, enacting quiet studies of time, work, and our bodies’ experiences navigating a neatly manufactured world. Optics and technique are guiding principles for formal inventions and descriptions, be they in the form of tubular sculptures composed of multilayered mylar that resemble chrome, or gelatin silver prints of found bodily forms which seem to dissolve into abstraction the further their darkroom development processes are pushed to its limits. His drawings stretch subjects and line-based articulation from specificity to generality, analogous to the often unreliable function of warping memory.

Tony Chrenka (b. 1992, Minneapolis) lives and works in New York. Solo and two-person exhibitions include SculptureCenter, Long Island City (2024); Theta, New York (2023, 2021) and Kaje, Brooklyn (2019). Group exhibitions include Cherry Hill, Cologne (2025); Konrad Fischer Galerie, Düsseldorf (2024); Clementin Seedorf, Cologne (2023); and Shoot the Lobster, New York (2022).
