In her hybrid drawing-painting practice, Hannah Taurins excavates and reconstructs imagery from the vast field of fashion photography. Her editorial eye is compelled by scenes that posit dynamic subjects as agents of a meta-dialogue between media and art, or between their own subjecthood and objecthood. In her elaborately layered compositions on canvas and panel, Taurins fleshes out the photographic propelling of desire with expert draftsmanship and repossessing flair. Context is selectively articulated as a means of reference either to the printed media from which an image comes or towards the fine art into which it has been translated.
